Join hands-on workshops, activities and family trails on a ‘Create Another World’ theme at the Ironbridge Gorge Museums during the school half-term holiday, which runs from Saturday 17th to Sunday 25th February.
At Blists Hill Victorian Town, where life over 100 years ago is recreated, a fun family trail will lead around the historic streets. On the way chat to the ‘residents’ in their cosy cottages and places of work and afterwards enjoy a meal in the New Inn or some traditionally cooked fish and chips from the Fish Fryer.
Creative workshops will be held at the Enginuity design and technology discovery centre in Coalbrookdale each day throughout the half-term holiday from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Afterwards play with huge interactive exhibits, X-ray everyday objects to see how they are made, control a ‘river’ to generate electricity and compete against a robot.
Across the River Severn at Coalport China Museum join a drop-in session to paint ceramic items such as a money box, fridge magnet or delicate china flower or decorate paper plates. On certain days you can also try your hand at sculpting with air-drying clay. These sessions will take place between 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm. All ceramic items carry a small charge of £1-£4 in addition to the museum entrance fee.
Between 17th and 24th February (excluding Sunday 18th February) tile decorating workshops at Jackfield Tile Museum use the traditional tube lining technique to create designs with your choice of colours. Tiles cost from £5 each (plus admission) and can be fired and sent home later for a small extra charge to cover postage and packing. The sessions start from 10am, but allowing up to 1½ hours to decorate your tile, last admission is at 2.30pm.
Most of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums are open 10am-4pm during the February school half term. Activities and demonstrations vary day-to-day and some carry an extra charge in addition to the entrance fee; check website for details. <span ">
