The Senior Citizens Forum helps older people in Telford & Wrekin by providing information about services, activities and volunteering. It encourages them to get involved, remain active and independent and to get their voices and opinions heard.
The Forum is a small charity relying on grants and donations, and currently supported by Big Lottery funding. Run by a board of trustees and supported by two part time employees, it has a membership of around 2250 older people. Membership is free and open to people normally resident in the area, who are generally but not exclusively over the age of 55.
The Forum holds regular open forums throughout the year at various venues featuring speakers on a variety of key topics. It also hosts social events. Every two months a free magazine is sent to all our members by post or by email. It includes articles on current local and national issues, and gives details about local activities, leisure pursuits, events and volunteering opportunities, alongside the Forum’s website, Facebook and Twitter sites.
The Forum offers tutoring in computer skills, at home and at weekly drop-in sessions. It is also offers the Musical Memories project to dementia sufferers and the Stay Well, Live Well groups for those living with long term conditions. The Forum’s action groups carry out research and take up issues on behalf of members.
